On a warm Saturday night under the lights at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, the Texas Elite Spartans closed out a perfect regular season in dominant fashion, overwhelming the Mississippi Panthers 40-12 in one of the most complete performances of the year.

From the opening drive, the Spartans looked locked in, explosive, and fully prepared for the postseason.

Texas wasted no time setting the tone. On the first offensive possession of the game, quarterback Michelle Angel connected with Summer McNeal on a 30+ yard touchdown strike that immediately silenced the home crowd and ignited the Spartans sideline. It was the beginning of an offensive avalanche that Mississippi simply could not stop.

The Spartans jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, putting together five straight scoring drives while dominating every phase of the game.

Michelle Angel continued her incredible late-season surge, playing arguably her best football of the year heading into the postseason. The Spartans signal caller carved up the Panthers defense for four touchdown passes while consistently extending plays and keeping the offense ahead of the chains all night long.

While Angel controlled the air attack, Tara “Turbo” Thomas punished the Panthers on the ground. Facing loaded boxes and heavy pressure, Turbo still dominated the game with physical runs, broken tackles, a rushing TD and explosive bursts that wore Mississippi down possession after possession. She also added a receiving touchdown, continuing her case as one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the WNFC.

Maria Jackson once again found the end zone, extending one of the league’s most consistent touchdown streaks this season. Jackson now likely finishes the regular season as the WNFC leader in receiving touchdowns with nine, further cementing herself as one of the premier playmakers in the history of women’s professional football.

Defensively, the Spartans were absolutely suffocating.

Texas completely shut down the Panthers rushing attack, forcing Mississippi into a one-dimensional game plan from the opening quarter. The Panthers struggled to move the football all night, managing only one first down in the first half while rarely finding rhythm through the air.

What made the performance even more impressive was that the Spartans secondary once again played without defense leader Jewelle Grimsley for the second straight week, and never missed a beat.

The Spartans secondary turned the game into a nightmare for Mississippi quarterback Regena Jackson.

Khadijah Ellison delivered one of the best defensive performances of the season, recording two interceptions, including a massive pick-ix that blew the game wide open. Her first interception return electrified the Spartans sideline and gave the surging Spartans offense the ball with 4 downs on the Panthers 4 yard line.

The Spartans defense also forced a safety and consistently overwhelmed the Panthers offensive line with pressure from every angle.

Jaimie Lock was everywhere! The veteran defensive leader disrupted passing lanes all night long with multiple pass breakups while helping lead a defensive effort that gave Mississippi almost no room to breathe offensively.

Special teams delivered for Texas. Cara Weisman remained automatic, knocking through five extra points as the Spartans continued to capitalize on nearly every scoring opportunity.

Mississippi managed just one offensive touchdown during the game, later adding a second half punt return score, but by then the outcome had long been decided. The Spartans controlled the tempo, controlled the line of scrimmage, and controlled the night from start to finish.

With the victory, the Spartans complete the regular season undefeated at 6-0 and remain firmly in position for the WNFC’s number one seed after holding the top spot in the rankings for the past two weeks.

Now, all eyes turn toward WNFC league communications and social media as fans await Monday’s official tournament rankings and first-round playoff announcements.
