Dallas, Texas – The Texas Elite Spartans, the four-time Women's National Football Conference (WNFC) champions, are bringing their storied program to Goldthwaite for their 2025 training camp, marking a historic first for the franchise. This will be the first time in the team’s history that they’ve conducted training camp outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area, adding a new chapter to their legacy of excellence.

After finishing the 2024 season with a strong 7-2 record and narrowly missing their fifth championship title in a hard-fought game against the Mississippi Panthers, the Spartans are eager to set a fresh tone for the upcoming season. By hosting training camp in Goldthwaite, the team hopes to spark a new tradition and lay the foundation for reclaiming their championship crown.

A Warm Welcome in Goldthwaite The Spartans extend their heartfelt thanks to the Goldthwaite community for their incredible hospitality. Athletic Director and Head Coach Andy Howard, along with Superintendent Chris Bailey, have been instrumental in making this unique experience possible. Their support has been crucial in welcoming the Spartans to Goldthwaite.

A special thank you also goes to Chris and Haley Hagar for their generosity in hosting the team and to Silvergate Farms and Hagar Longhorns for sponsoring Friday’s meal from the beloved Mary’s Tacos—a meal the team is eagerly anticipating.

A Team Built for Greatness

The Spartans’ roster, made up of 63 players, 14 coaches, and 8 staff members will be making the trip. Over the three days in Goldthwaite, the team will engage in intense practices, team-building exercises, and preparation for what promises to be the most competitive season in women’s professional football history.

Leading the offensive charge is star quarterback Michelle Angel, who enters camp as the undisputed QB1. She’ll be supported by a robust offensive line and flanked by future Hall of Fame receivers Liz Landry and Maria Jackson, as well as standout playmakers Ashley McBay and Amanda Heilman. The run game remains dominant, with Destanie Yarbrough, Jasmine Rambo, and Kelli Smith leading the charge.

On defense, a stacked roster of 34 players is led by returning captain Jewelle Grimsley and star linebacker Mercedes Tyler. The addition of standout talents like Waynicia Thomas, Christine Jaqueth and Whitney Palmer has only strengthened a unit built for domination.

Community Connection and Future Goals

The Spartans’ visit to Goldthwaite is about more than football. It’s an opportunity to connect with the community, inspire young athletes, and showcase the power of women in sports. Under the leadership of Head Coach Odessa OJ Jenkins—the winningest coach in women’s football history—the Spartans embody excellence both on and off the field.

“Goldthwaite has opened its arms to us, and we couldn’t be more grateful and proud,” said Coach Jenkins. ”

Looking Ahead to 2025 As the team prepares to tackle the upcoming season, their time in Goldthwaite will serve as a cornerstone for success.

For the Goldthwaite community, this is a unique opportunity to witness Texas history up close and support one of the most dynamic teams in professional women’s sports. The Spartans have always represented the ELITE of women’s football, and their presence in Goldthwaite is sure to leave a lasting impact.
