For the seventh time in club history, the Texas Elite Spartans are headed to the biggest stage in women's professional football.
The road to the WNFC IX Cup Championship ends right here at home. On June 21, at 3PM CT, the undefeated Texas Elite Spartans (8-0) will take the field at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, in front of a national audience on ESPN2, facing the Western Conference Champion San Diego Rebellion (7-1) for the right to lift the IX Cup Trophy.
And now, the Spartans are calling on every fan, family member, supporter, partner, and believer who has been part of this journey to help pack the house.
A Conference Championship Earned
Saturday night's Eastern Conference Championship against the Washington Prodigy was everything playoff football should be. Physical. Emotional. Relentless.
A one-hour weather delay pushed kickoff back nearly 90 minutes, but neither team showed any signs of slowing down once the game finally began. The defenses immediately took control.
Both offenses were forced to punt on their opening possessions as two of the league's top teams traded blows. Every yard was contested. Every tackle carried weight. At the end of the first quarter, the scoreboard remained frozen at 0-0. Then the Spartans struck first.
The turning point came when conference finals Defensive MVP Crystal Daniels stepped in front of a pass from Prodigy quarterback Ashley Clark, giving Texas prime field position and shifting momentum firmly toward the Spartans. The Spartans capitalized.
Fullback Amber Kimbrough powered across the goal line to give Texas its first score of the night and ignite the Spartans sideline.
Washington's season-long struggle with penalties continued to surface, helping Texas maintain momentum throughout the second quarter.
The Spartans defense continued to tighten the screws. Deana Guidry became a disruptive force, creating constant pressure and forcing Washington's offense into uncomfortable situations. Every snap seemed to end with Guidry around the football.
Meanwhile, the defensive front of Fancy Robinson, Whitney Palmer, and Waynicia Thomas established dominance at the line of scrimmage.
Palmer delivered one of the game's biggest defensive moments with a drive-killing sack, while the entire unit consistently collapsed the pocket and forced the Prodigy offense into difficult situations.
With time winding down in the first half, quarterback Michelle Angel connected with Maria Jackson, the WNFC's touchdown reception leader, for a scoring strike that pushed the Spartans lead to 13-0.
Washington's Solina Pascual, who was outstanding throughout the evening, blocked the extra point to keep the Prodigy within striking distance. It would become a strange special teams night, as Texas ultimately had three PAT attempts blocked.
But the Spartans weren't finished.
With just 1:31 remaining before halftime, Tara "Turbo" Thomas powered into the end zone, extending the lead and delivering a crushing blow heading into the locker room.
The Spartans would never look back.
Complete Team Victory
What made Saturday night's win so impressive wasn't just the final score.
It was how complete the performance was. The Spartans scored five touchdowns against one of the best defenses in the WNFC. Two came on the ground. Three came through the air. And perhaps most impressively, the offensive line did not surrender a single sack all night.
Against a Washington defense loaded with playmakers, the Spartans offensive front controlled the line of scrimmage from start to finish, opening running lanes, protecting the quarterback, and allowing the offense to operate at full speed throughout the game.
And Michelle Angel made the most of it. With a trip to the IX Cup Championship on the line, the veteran quarterback delivered arguably her finest performance of her career. Angel threw three touchdown passes, completed passes to seven different receivers, and did not throw a single interception. Her command of the offense kept Washington off balance all night as she distributed the football across one of the deepest receiving corps in women's football.
Summer McNeal found the end zone. Maria Jackson found the end zone. While Angel orchestrated the offense, Tara Thomas continued her MVP-caliber season. The Spartans' leading rusher delivered another dominant postseason performance, including her touchdown before halftime that helped break the game open. Her physical running style and consistency throughout the playoffs earned her the honor of being named the WNFC Playoff Tournament MVP, cementing her role as one of the driving forces behind Texas' championship run.
Maria Jackson was named Eastern Conference Championship Game Offensive MVP after another stellar performance that included a touchdown reception and several critical catches that kept drives alive throughout the night. Crystal Daniels earned Eastern Conference Championship Game Defensive MVP honors for her game-changing interception and leadership in the secondary.
But the truth is, Saturday's victory belonged to the entire roster. The offensive line dominated. The defensive front overwhelmed Washington. The skill players delivered. The coaching staff had the Spartans prepared. And Texas looked every bit like the championship contender it has been all season long.
